Kansas Veterans of World War II Oral History Grant Project, 2005-2006.

Collection consists of transcriptions and audio-visual materials of oral histories conducted by numerous participating organizations throughout Kansas for veterans of World War II (WW2). In 2005 the Kansas State Historical Society was awarded funds by the state legislature to administer a grant program to create, preserve, and make accessible these oral histories. Each grant awardee focused on a unique scope or approach to capturing this information. The All Veterans Museum Complex, Inc. of Pratt, for example, focused on how Pratt was a B-29 airplane training site; the Doniphan County Historical Society of Hiawatha focused on the experiences of Pottawatomie, Kickapoo, and Sac and Fox tribal members; the Department of Social Sciences at Emporia State University focused on the ethnic backgrounds of Emporia and Lyon County veterans; and other such projects from around the state.
